On Aging:

I want to age naturally and unconcerned, with memories of my boys and my wife

as if everything occurred just yesterday, which is usually the case, but I want to remember anyway!

I want to age, wise and scathed with scars and intact faith,

beaten, failed and tired, but learned and unafraid.

I know a long time from today I’ll use tubes, drink ensure and wear pampers, again!

and I’ll be helped, bathed and fed. But I’ll be ready,

beaten, failed and tired, but learned and unafraid.

I’d like to stay sharp so when an act of kindness occurs

I can say Thanks! …and to a cruel act say, I’m still here!

beaten, failed and tired, but learned and unafraid.

So it’s funny that when that times comes most of the care we’ll receive will come from people that are yet to be born. Of course our kids and grandchildren will be there, but even all that love can’t change pampers. That my friends, might be left to others. So be kind to strangers, weirdos and social inadequates. Have nice thoughts even toward those that are not around yet, ’cause chances are, we are gonna need them!
