Keyword Research Makes You a Better Person

keyword research

I love when my kids ask me questions, because it forces me to simplify the answers in a way and in terms they can relate to. It wasn’t always that way … when I loved it that is!

Parents live in this world every day, where we are asked the craziest of questions that must be answered simply and relevantly to them.

Questions like –Why is "fireworks" two words, like fire and works, yet is neither fire nor works?  Why is that the name of it?

Consumers are like kids in many ways, they have their own logic and language, we digital marketers and custom content producers call these, Keywords.

Simply put …The right keyword research forces you to learn the language of your clients and prospects. If you do it right it makes you think about them first before you think about you and your circus.

Keyword Research allows you to talk to other humans in a manner that they understand, because you now speak the language of their problems and their dreams!

If you try to sound smarter than you are, you’ll come across smuggish. If you oversimplify, then your message flies to high. If you over explain, you risk sounding condescending. And if you talk too much about yourself you’ll be dubbed a narcissistic douche. We have plenty of those online already, we don’t need another one!

Be yourself … add value … solve a problem … tell me something I don’t know, even if it’s just entertaining!

Remember entertainment is not just about making people laugh, but also about eliciting a response to a thought block, or to a different piece of content, in any format.

Is not about algorithms … search engines and page rank.  I mean it is, but it’s not!

Google has managed to make search more relevant over the years. Yes, they are not entirely impartial and no they don’t necessarily have the little guy in mind, but they do aim for ultimate relevance. It’s just that, well … that’s a relative term!

I recently heard Jeff Jarvis on Six Pixels of Separation Podcast refer to the government as being closed by default and open by force. I couldn’t help relating to Google in almost the same way.

Regardless of that bitter sweet relationship, Google has managed to somewhat level off the playing field for most of us. Today we have a better than average chance to rank well as long as:

  • We resonate with any niche’s or verticals’ semantic habits!
  • We consistently create compelling and usable content.
  • We continue to pay homage to the long-tail.

Panda did not affect as much those sites that already ranked well because of their solid content strategy. They did away or trying to do away with content farms and what I call fake-value sites.

Keywords are the language of your customers, if you become one of them in your efforts to serve them better then you'll be unique and highly sought in your field of work.
