The Small Business of the Future - why it's yours to have!

 

workshiftingTo me the company of the future is totally decentralized in the way it operates, but totally centralized in the way it delivers its vision and customer experience.

The principals in this company can work from anywhere. A starbucks, an Amtrak train, the beach, a bus bench or their car. As long as they have a laptop and an internet connection, they are in business!

The employees in this company can also work from anywhere. Workshifting is a way of doing business not something to slowly warm up to. There’s trust in these employees because they are not paid to punch in and out for 8 hours, they are paid for results and project oriented goal accomplishments.

The owners understand that trust in their key players is a required downpayment in the future of their business.

They understand the realities of the new economy, they are aware of capital requirements to run a digital business compared to that of a brick and mortar and of course there isn’t much to think about once you understand the difference in efficiencies.

They are in tune with their client’s needs and pain points, and put themselves in a position to offer their services first and worry about contracts second.

Here’s why starting a business its easier than ever before:

  • The internet is free.
  • All the information you need to do research for your new venture is free.
  • Initially most of the advice is free.
  • One last thing that is also free is your free-will to do this! Like Chris Gardner says in his book (not an affiliate) “Start Where You Are” – You drove here didn’t you?
  • Starting a corporation, opening a bank account, and business cards: under $250
  • A website or a blog: Free if you have some digital skill, or $1,000 – $2,500 for a basic identity/information site.
  • Time: How do you value your time? There’s no way around this one … you have to invest the most precious and limited non-negotiable element you have in order to build something of value. Not my rule … it's universal.
