Independence of Any Kind Always Has a Price

Our forefathers knew this better than anyone I think.

Everyone one that signed the

declaration of independence put it all on the line.

They didn’t just sign a piece of paper telling King Jorge to f… off, they signed their death warrants pretty much.

How committed to their cause do you think they were?

Differently from everyone else who actually sided with the cause and took up arms, these guys actually put their names on paper!

How committed are you to your own financial independence?

How strong do you feel about designing and defining your own lifestyle they way it suits you, not anyone else?

Are you willing to "die" - “FAIL” multiple times to achieve your vision and/or definition of Personal Freedom?

Here are some decisions you might have to make and pay a price for to achieve your own personal and professional (business… whatever that is btw!) independence.

• Commit to the constant learning, unlearning and re-learning process. There is no getting off this train!

• You will FAIL, miserably, time and time again… get back on the horse, forget the saddle.

• Be humble, share and mentor those struggling throughout earlier phases of the cycle. Thank those that helped you, even if you paid them!

• You are a problem solver! No matter what your craft is… never forget that!

• When things start happening too easy, question the model - Ask your community, friends and clients what they truly think about you and what you do. My favorite question is: What am I missing?

• Perfection is the enemy of progress -  Also the biggest lie and excuse wannabe’s use all the time. If you have a minimum viable product ready, get it out and learn as you go! The world is not perfect and neither are you or your product /service.

• Create teams - We are in the age of collaboration, individuals with a vision, mavericks and leaders are needed and are out there, but these guys accomplish little without the right team around them. No one does it alone today! So create teams that produce stuff/value for others… and understand your place in the ecosystem.

• Get as much sleep as you can when you can! You never know when you'll go 56 hours straight :-)

• Reinvest your money back in your business. This will always have the highest ROI.

• Get your priorities in line. You will sacrifice things you "need" today for the lifestyle you want tomorrow.

A good example of this kind of collaboration at work, even among giants is the actual Declaration of independence.

There is a scene is the HBO miniseries, John Adams, were, Franklin, Jefferson and Adams were shown collaborating on the choosing and meaning of words.

There were no egos, no rank pulling, only respect, admiration and focus to doing one thing and one thing only: The drafting of a document that marked a new beginning.

I believe had they known the price and sacrifice to get it done, they would've done exactly the same.

As far as the decision to sign the Declaration and what unravelled after... We've gotten a lot of value for the price haven't we?
