Long are the days where Medicare Home Health and Home Care providers are no longer held accountable for their Quality of Care as interpreted by their very own patients. Also gone are the days where you get to stay in the game without showing some real Functional Improvement results as far as rehab and skill are concerned.
CMS has been slow, but they are starting to gain some traction, however they have to keep up as well. Analogous to a parent that has to enforce the very rules that it has created in their household, they have to find an effficient process in order to get out of their own way to achieve a prosperous balance.
So there is no question that the industry needs to adhere to the much needed mechanical version of caring for the sick at home. The primary challenge is to do it without sacrificing the human side of the equation: The patient.
I for one happen to agree with the changes been implemented. However the industry has never been good at self monitoring and the results are evident. Implementing and staying on track of proposed legislation is for the most part where the secondary challenge lies.
